about

Hannah Staudinger is an oboist and educator in the Boston area and performs regularly as principal oboist of the Boston University Symphony Orchestra and Wind Ensemble. Hannah’s solo work has included recitals in the Boston and Baltimore areas, featuring works from multiple eras including the baroque, romantic, and contemporary.  Recent solo performances have included the Strauss Oboe Concerto, Schumann Romances, and Benjamin Britten's "Six Metamorphoses after Ovid". Her education experience includes high school and elementary teaching in Howard County, Maryland public schools, and assisting with the Baltimore Symphony’s outreach programs.

When she is not rehearsing in large ensembles or chamber groups, Hannah is a freelance oboist eager to play in any sort of group. This past year she performed as the second oboist of the Boston Civic Symphony, and as the principal oboist of the Weston Wind Quintet. She has also played with Boston’s Kammerwerke Double Wind Quintet, working on new compositions written specifically for that unique group, and recorded the compositions from students at the Berklee School of Music, where she doubled on oboe and English horn. No matter the group or the piece, Hannah finds sheer enjoyment from playing with others and making music.

Hannah has enjoyed lessons from top oboists including John Ferrillo and Mark McEwen of the Boston Symphony, Eugene Izotov of the San Francisco Symphony, and Michael Lisicky of the Baltimore Symphony. She has also participated in master classes with Russ deLuna of the San Francisco Symphony, and Melissa Hooper of the Baltimore Symphony.

Hannah is currently a Doctoral Candidate at Boston University studying under Mark McEwen of the Boston Symphony. She has previously studied with Jane Marvine of the Baltimore Symphony and Susan Kokernak from Niskayuna, NY. Holding her Masters in Oboe Performance from Boston University and Bachelors in Oboe Performance and Music Education from the Peabody Conservatory; Hannah is ultimately striving to combine her loves of music, oboe, and mentorship through initiatives of outreach and education.
